On 9th July we were very happy to perform at the Takeover at Cecil Sharp House! We led the showcase, alongside brilliant musicians Isaac Dalglish and Lilian Grace. We also had time to join in the ceilidh and a session. In the evening it was great to watch the performers in the concert, as well as starting off the grand finale at end of the day, the tune Double Lead Through.
We performed two new sets at the Takeover, which had never been seen before! One is called The Missing Silver Flute, which two French tunes Silver String and L'Harmonica. The other is called Sneezing Horses, with the common tune Horses Brawl. This arrangement is improvised! Hopefully you will be able to watch or listen to these new arrangements on our YouTube or SoundCloud soon, so keep an eye out for that!

Here's a bit of an update on what we've been up to recently!
We were very happy to perform at Barking Folk Festival a couple of weeks ago; it was great to watch watch the other musicians too! It was brilliant to perform there, and the event in general was very cheerful and folky! We also have a couple of possible upcoming performances. On 9th July we will be hosting the Twilight Session of the Takeover at Cecil Sharp House. Please swing by if you can! See our gigs page for more details. We have also recently been contacted by a couple of folk clubs... can't say who yet and they haven't been confirmed, but we're hashing out details as quickly as possible! We're also working on some new arrangements; without giving too much away, we'll have some tunes from within the UK and from outside it, and one will even be mostly improvised... so we'll keep you updated on that! On the 2nd of April were the finals of the New Roots folk music competition, which we were invited to. We were very glad to be able to go to the finals, as it was very fun, and a very valuable experience! We met loads of really great people and groups, and the judges gave us some good feedback. After the competition, everyone gets a performance opportunity of some kind, be it a gig, or folk festival, or something else. We are still waiting for ours, but we'll update you when we have one!
We also have recently released a new arrangement! It is called 'Trading Cannons', and consists of two Swedish tunes called Swap Tune and Hamburger. Here is a link to watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=982QaoyYHMo We are extremely happy to announce that we have got to the finals of the New Roots Folk Competition! We entered a little while ago, and have been anxiously awaiting results. We then recently got an E-mail saying that we, along with 12 other folk groups, have made it to the finals. We were pleasantly surprised and thrilled to hear this news.
The finals are in St Albans, and will take place on the 2nd of April. Playing our arrangements to the judges, and meeting all of the other people should be brilliant. We will be playing three arrangements: Broken Phones, the Case of the Penguins Nest, and a brand new arrangement we haven't shared with anybody before! We can't wait. We'll update you further after the finals! Fun fact here: we are all home-educated! It makes rehearsing a lot easier because we aren't stuck to school timetables, although this is counterbalanced by the fact that our two pairs of siblings live more than 50 miles away... London to St Leonard's or vice-versa is around an 1 hour and 40 minutes train journey, so it's not to bad!
Some people think home-educated people don't do school work, but this is not the case! We do school work just as normal, it's just we do it at home. Home-education just allows a lot more freedom. We can do things like forming a band! The other thing people mistakenly think about home-educators is that they think we have no friends... this is definitely not true. We have other home-educated friends, and often even friends who go to school! We have been pretty busy lately! We recently entered a folk competition called the New Roots competition, an annual folk event "committed to promoting events that shine a light on up and coming talent in the UK alt-folk scene". We are also going to be entering into the Cecil Sharp House Takeover soon. We'll let you know how we do soon!
We entered three of our arrangements into the New Roots competition: Broken Phones, Scotch Eggs and Divine Tempo. We will know if we have reached the finals by March, so we will keep you updated! The second event is the The Takeover at Cecil Sharp House. This is a fun folk event run by the EFDSS Youth Forum. There will be ceilidhs, sessions and a concert at the end of the day, and we are applying! Click here to find out more: http://www.efdss.org/news/253-january-2017/4280-the-takeover Stay tuned to find out more about these competitions soon! We have recently been working on a new arrangement. We won't say too much about what it is yet, but we'll say this: it's a mysterious bird related set... it should be out on our YouTube and SoundCloud page soon! We will also post it on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram when it finished as well, so don't forget to follow us there!
